Abstract
In repair of cleft palate, mucoperiosteal flap have commonly used. Dissection of mucoperiosteurn may restrict midfacial skeletal growth due to the inhibition of growth center, inappropriate blood supply and scar contrac ture. Early operation may restrict maxillary growth and maialign the teeth.
The prime purpose of this studies are to evaluate the possible effect that surgical repair may have on the subsequent growth of the maxilla particulary in the anteriorposterior direction, with reference to the state of occlusion of anterior teeth.
Authors carried out cephalometry in 74 children of cleft palate and velopharyngeal incompetent children following cleft palate surgery. According to the sex, type of cleft palate, existence of operation and operative age, cephalometric values, values were analyzed -statistically. From cephalome tric it may be inferred that surgical repair after 4 years of age will prevent the changes of maxilla and teeth growth.
